WARTON TYPHOONS 3 vs 2 AORFC

Ashton were defeated 3 goals to 2 following a deflected free kick winner in what proved to be the very last moments of the match.
After creating the majority of the goal scoring opportunities throughout the game Ashton came away from the first game of 2013 with nothing, when even a point would have been a little harsh on the reds.
Warton have their goal keeper to thank for keeping them in it early on, with two great saves from Tom Bonnick and Ben Grimshaw efforts.
However a delightful pass from Nick Haynes allowed Bonnick to cross the ball for Tom Darkins to open the scoring from close range.
The scores were levelled just before half time when Warton netted their first real effort on goal when the ball fell kindly to the strikers feet just 6 yards from goal.
The second half was a tight affair with few chances being created. Had Tom Bonnick finished his close range opportunity the final outcome may have been different.
Lady luck was not wearing read shirt and it was Warton who took the lead following a loss of possession in midfield which ended with a 2 v 1 attack which was easily converted.
Ashton pressed for an equaliser and it came when Ben Walker delivered a deep free kick which was tapped across goal by Chris King for Rob Cuff to score on his first game back since his ankle break.
A well fought point looked on the cards until it was snatched away in the final piece of action. Warton were awarded a free kick 20 yards out. Despite a 5 man wall the ball somehow found its way through the legs and took a deflection to drift beyond Ben Walker in the goal.
This horrible way to lose sums up the type of luck Ashton are dealt with. Week in week out the reds continually get punished for the slightest of errors and cant seem to get the same rub of the green despite their hard work.
A positive to take out of the game is the overall performance. Ashton make it difficult for teams and play some nice football themselves. Gone are the days when teams would turn up and score 5 or 6 goals with no reply. The team is growing in confidence and building a squad of players who are improving each game.
Graham Harrison was man of the match with a flawless performance at the back.
