AORFC 4 vs 2 BAE Warton

Posted by Stuart on Monday, September 10, 2012
Ashton won their first real points on Sunday with a well deserved 4 - 2 victory over BAE Warton.

Ashton took the lead early on when Michael Robinson delivered a perfect ball from the right flank for Rob Cuff to head home his first of the season. Unfortunately Rob Cuff was stretchered off later on in the half with a broken ankle.
Despite having greater possession of the football Ashton actually fell behind when BAE's only 2 shots of the half both nestled in the back of the net the first of which...

HUNT FOR A NEW MANAGER

Posted by Stuart on Monday, August 27, 2012
Despite the encouraging build up, Ashton have experienced a disappointing start to the season losing in the cup and the first 2 fixtures of the league campaign.

In an attempt to improve the current situation club secretary Stuart Hames has decided to look for a new manager to bring some fresh ideas and a new approach to on field matters. The feeling is that this can only be a good thing for the club and to do so at the earliest opportunity would be the best scenario for all concerned.

The club ...

WARTON TYPHOONS 2 vs 0 AORFC

Posted by Stuart on Sunday, August 19, 2012
Ashton kicked off the first competitive game of the season in the Challenge Cup first round versus Warton Typhoons.

Despite the enthusiasm amongst the players before kick off Ashton were unable to get out of first gear. The players were guilty of slack passing which lead to a lack of possession of the football in midfield.

Having said that both teams had very few clean attempts at goal in the first half and Ashton could have taken the lead if Michael Robinson's effort was the other side of the...

RIBBLETON 1 vs 1 AORFC

Posted by Stuart on Monday, August 13, 2012
Ashton rounded of the their pre season preparations with a 1-1 draw away at Ribbleton Wanderers.

Ashton started incredibly sloppy and were behind within 10 minutes when Ribbleton were the only players awake with the ball bouncing around the box.

In normal Ashton style it was the conceding of the goal which kick started the game and the reds began to press the oppositions goal and created a number of clear cut opportunities to equalise.
Chris King was unable to find the target from close range af...

AORFC 3 vs 2 BRIGG FC

Posted by Stuart on Monday, July 30, 2012
Ashton came from behind to record a confidence boosting 3 vs 2 victory over Division 2 side Brigg FC.

For the majority of the first half Ashton were able to contain a strong Brigg side and they rarely threatened the goal.
An early injury to Tom Bonnick who was making his Ashton debut meant an unplanned change was required which created a period of confusion amongst the lads. The team lost their shape and Brigg were able to catch Ashton on the break and quickly found themselves two up with two s...

AORFC 2 vs 4 ALBRIGHTON

Posted by Stuart on Monday, July 23, 2012
Ashton completed their first pre season fixture with a good run out against one of the promoted teams from last season Albrighton FC.

Ashton had a limited squad with numerous players still away on their summer holidays which paved the way for 3 summer signings to make their debuts. Scott Dixon and Josh Watkinson lined up at the back whilst Ben Grimshaw took to the field in a new look attacking formation.

It was Scott and Josh who probably had the more difficult of games as Albrighton's strength...

2012-13 LEAGUE FORMAT

Posted by Stuart on Wednesday, June 20, 2012
The league will see some significant changes that will take effect from the start of the 2012-13 season.

Firstly the league will now be known as THE LANCASHIRE SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

Starting from the first game of the season clubs will be able to use all 5 subs during a game. The rule had originally been proposed to allow clubs to roll on roll off subs but this was voted against by member clubs and the rule to allow a maximum of 5 subs to be used in game was passed instead.
This should allow m...

PRESEASON TRAINING

Posted by Stuart on Tuesday, June 19, 2012
Following the trial game on Sunday 19th a number of players will be invited to participate in the preseason training schedule set for Sunday mornings.

Preseason training is vitally important and should not be seen as something to try and avoid.

This season Ashton-on-Ribble look likely to have their biggest squad yet so there will be plenty of competition for places.

Last season Tom Darkins proved that hard work in the summer months will result in a much improved season as he went on to win Playe...
