AORFC competed and lost thier first ever Ashton derby and were subsequently knocked out of the cup after losing out 2 vs 5.

The scoreline however reflects badly on the AORFC lads as they had far more clear cut chances in the second half but just couldn't find the clinical touch in front of goal.

The fact that the team haven't played together in nearly 4 weeks no doubt played a part in the lads starting on the back foot. A sloppy start was dually punished with AORFC falling behind to two goals which could have been avoided.
A third goal just before half time was scored in what was really the only time the opposition got in behind the AORFC defence.

The second half was much improved display and AORFC can take heart from the amount of chances they created against a team 2 divisions above them. However if you fail to convert your chances you will struggle to win football games and its that confidence in front of goal that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

MOTM Mike Tattersall provided the highlight of the game, finishing off a nice move down the left hand side with a  good finish for his first goal of the season. If this was anything other than Sunday League football, other teams would certainly be sniffing around for the services of the twice crowned players player of the year.

Ashton's other goal came from Ben Grimshaw who's pace allowed him to break clear of his marker and chip the keeper from just outside the area.

Despite having the lion share of the chances AORFC couldn't get complete control of the game and the opposition always looked dangerous on the attack. They were able to capitalise on their few chances netting two more before the final whistle.

The game finished at 2 vs 5 but with some positives to take away. Training resumes on Wednesday 3rd October 8 - 9pm at Preston College 3G pitches. Shooting practice is almost certainly on the cards.
